On February 26th, families around the world got to witness Jimmy Kimmel host the 2017 Oscars Ceremony. The night was full of funny jokes, tear-jerking moments, and a mistake no one will forget. Did you get to watch the big show? If you were not able to tune in that Sunday night or could not finish watching the program, I have all the key moments you need from this year’s Oscars.
To begin, Jimmy Kimmel put on a spectacular show, having a few laughs with Justin Timberlake and floating bags of candy down to the audience. He even brought his skit “Mean Tweets” from his late night show to the Oscar stage with many celebrities, including Emma Stone, Miles Teller, Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ryan Gosling. Kimmel’s comedic feud with actor Matt Damon was also brought to the Oscar stage. Matt even “tripped” the comedian as he was walking towards the camera. Overall, a well job done by Kimmel.
Even though La La Land was a hit in 2016, the major film did not win all of the awards it was nominated for. Hacksaw Ridge won the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing while Arrival won Best Sound Editing. However, La La Land did win major categories such as Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Original Song for “City of Stars”, and Best Production Design. Mahershala Ali took home the award for his supporting role in Moonlight as Fences actress Viola Davis received the Best Supporting Actress award. As the night was closing, Casey Affleck won Best Actor for his role in Manchester by the Sea, beating out Denzel Washington, , Andrew Garfield, as well as Ryan Gosling. However, La La Land star Emma Stone won gold for Best Actress.
The last award of the night, however, is the highlight of the show for all. Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the winner of the award for Best Motion Picture, with Faye saying the winner was “La La Land”. However, as executives took the stage, it was revealed that Moonlight won Best Picture instead, as Warren explained how his card read “Emma Stone: La La Land” which was the previous award. Even though the wrong card was read, Moonlight still got their time to shine.
Therefore, that wraps up the 2017 Oscars and all of the key-moments you may have missed or should know from the show. Can’t wait for next year!
